The education system updates itself over time in accordance with new needs, technological developments and social values as a result of socio-economic changes. Educational buildings, while keeping up with this process of change, should respect both the building scale and the urban design scale, and demonstrate their development and change through this approach.
Based on this approach, the proposed design of the “ITU Faculty of Business Administration” was designed by considering the project area as a holistic “campus” area, and by considering the proposed campus design through the relationship it will establish with the city. A perceptual approach has been applied throughout the area and the layout of the central urban space has been developed through pedestrian circulation, urban axes, intra-campus focal points and pedestrian axes.
The existing Faculty of Business Administration structure has been constructed with a main entrance focused on Seba Street over the Beşiktaş-Seba Street, Maçka, Nişantaşı axes. The building, which is added to the existing Historical Police Station building, cuts off its relationship with the other units of the campus and prevents the development of the area as a holistic campus area.
Based on this determination, the suggestion structure approach is put forward as a solution proposal to the fragmented campus formation. The main factor in the design process was the integration of the circulation axis of the historical Armory Building (School of Foreign Languages) and the Sunny Classroom building with Seba Street and the creation of a secondary campus entrance on this axis. Based on this main backbone, the proposal was integrated with the “Faculty of Business” structure, horizontal and vertical secondary axes, other faculty units and the cafeteria structure.
